What I got for Christmas
Happy New Year, friends! I hope you all enjoyed the holidays with your family! I know everyone is excited to start this new year, myself included! Our first Christmas in our new house was awesome and I enjoyed every second of it.
While we showered our son with golf clubs, clothes, board games (yes, he still loves them at 14! And I LOVE that he does!), and a skate board- I am a bit different. I always tell my husband to keep my gifts minimal. For starters, I always tell him that anything I truly want, I will just go out and buy. But, I also don’t like to have a bunch of STUFF. I am very mindful of what I buy- meaning a lot of thought goes into it. I make sure that I truly want something before I buy it. As Louise Hay says, “a cluttered closet is a cluttered mind.” Less is more to me. I feel better that way. Sometimes he listens, most of the time he doesn't and buys me stuff regardless. Anyways, my husband did a really good job this year because the few times I showed interest in things when we were out, he actually took note. This is what I got for Christmas this year and I love every item and am so grateful for such useful gifts!
Can’t Hurt Me by David Goggins
This book I have wanted since I first eyed it in Barnes and Nobles over a year ago. I love books and reading, but I love being inspired more than anything. Seeing things through someone else's mindset and lens can create so many AHA! moments. I am half way through this book and it is so good! David Goggins is a bad ass navy seal who has pushed through his fears and traumas because he knew the only way out, was through them. He talks about something that I have known for quite sometime, but hearing it in his words, through his wisdom and experience really impacted me and that is- You have to get uncomfortable. You have to come head on with your fears and things that make you want to run for the door. That's how they dissipate, by facing them, feeling the uncomfortable and frightening feelings that come with them, and just straight up be uncomfortable. One of my favorite quotes thus far in the book has been “It was about how much I was willing to suffer, how much more I could take, and how much I had to give. If I was going to make it, this would have to get personal.” This was what he said to himself when he was at mile 70/100 in a marathon. The book is solely focused on the power of the mind. If you’ve read my 3 inspiring books blog, you know I wholeheartedly believe in the power of our mind in every aspect and capacity. Unfortunately, that reality can take us either way, good or bad. This book is beyond inspiring because, well, we all have our demons that we fight. We all have fears that we have let get bigger than life, and I have yet to meet a person that doesn’t have deep rooted fears and traumas.
I've wanted one of these for a couple years now, but me being me, I never pulled the trigger and could never seem to find “the right one.” So my husband solved the problem for me and bought me one in which I had no say and no time to ponder...which worked out perfectly! This one is the perfect size! Nothing is worse than when a throw blanket doesn’t cover your feet (I mean, I’m 5’3”, come on). Anyways, he had heard me complain about the standard 50 x 60 measurement enough to know which size NOT to get me. I had gotten overly excited several times as we've passed a beautiful cozy looking “perfect” throw in stores, only to check the tag and see the measurement above. My strict criteria for throws is 50 x 70 and that extra 10 inches is so important for me and my comfort. Anyways, I love it and weighted blankets are life! They can help reduce anxiety and stress, as well as help you sleep more deeply. This is a 12 lb one and it is perfect- feels like a comforting hug! I highly recommend!
Tartelette Clay Matte Eyeshadow Palette
I've always really enjoyed the Tarte brand, especially their lip products. The boys did a really good job with this one because the shadows are all my kind of colors and blend super nicely. Back in the day when I worked for MAC cosmetics, I loved a huge variety of colors, but now I never really venture out of the neutral tones. I love the colors in this palette and find that I have been using 4 of the colors daily. Even if its just the super light brown for a crease color all by itself (which is typically how I've been rolling these days). While there are some some cooler, slightly purple tones, the majority are cool-toned brown, natural colors (the pictures doesn't do it justice). The darkest brown and black I use for eye liner and I love that everything I've been using for my eyes is all in this one pallet. I’ve been thoroughly enjoying it!
I have been looking for a cute, oversized graphic tee to wear tucked in with jeans. I hadn't found one that I loved the fit on. I like the oversized look, but sometimes I feel like they drown me. I really liked the way this one fit. It was fitted, for an oversized tee if that makes sense. I love the light wash color of it too- Almost like a light grey-ish purple. Excited to rock this in the spring!
Those are the items I got and it was perfect Christmas morning with the family! I hope you all had a great and memorable time and got things that you love, appreciate, and will have great use for. <3
Love,
Lina
